(Hamsayeh.Net) - Turkey seems to wanting to portray itself as the energy hub of the future. This is ironic since Turkey itself doesn't possess any oil or gas reserves worthy of mention for its own domestic consumption let alone any plans on supplying natural gas to Europe.
The NABUCCO pipeline supposedly envisions Central Asia's resources to feed nearly %10 of the European natural gas requirements and Turkey can only serve as a supply route which is very much similar to what Bulgaria, Romania and other European countries that fall on the pipeline route would be doing when it becomes operational.
It is therefore impossible to imagine the implementation of such an important and expensive undertaking without bringing in giants like Iran and Russia into supplying their massive gas resources into the pipeline to make it a feasible project.
In this respect considering the important roles Iran and Russia will be playing in the world of natural gas at all times, Turkey's energy minister said that he looks forward for the possibility of joining the two in the Nabucco gas pipeline in the future.
According to news reports, Taner Yildiz told NTV television that Tehran and Moscow may become involved in the project. 'We should not be surprised if we see Russia as a supplier one day. We can also easily see Iran in this project as a supplier in the future.' Yildiz said.
Despite some diplomatic hardballs being played by outside powers like the United States against the Nabucco project, many countries including Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria signed a multi-billion dollar contract, yesterday, making sure the project moves forward for the benefit of the international community.
