Iran's former Ambassador to Afghanistan and Pakistan Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian said the wrong evaluation of the West and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on Afghanistan's situation has fueled and strengthened extremism in the country.

In an interview with the Iranian students news agency, Taherian said "what we see in Afghanistan particularly in southern part and Helmand province did not appeared newly, but it has been lasting for seven years."

Reports say Britain has the most casualties during conflicts in Afghanistan, he said adding the European country also lost equipment and some of its soldiers were taken hostage.

These issues have been resulted from the West's wrong evaluation of Afghanistan's developments on the verge of Presidential election in the country, Taherian added.

The ambassador continued all Western countries and NATO should fulfill the commitments that they pledged to implement seven years ago including handing over responsibilities to Afghan government, promoting security forces and helping building infrastructures of the country to get fruitful results.

Elsewhere, he moved to Pakistani government measures in Swat Valley and said these actions have paved the way for problems to emerge.
