Tehran, 29 July 2009 - Iranian Army's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari on Wednesday announced that his forces will stage a stronger presence in high seas in an effort to maintain and boost the country's might and clout.
"The Iranian Army's naval forces will open its way into the high seas in a bid to maintain the country's might," Sayyari said, addressing a ceremony to mark the start of operation of the jetty of Iran's second naval zone in the country's southern waters in the Persian Gulf.
The Admiral said that expanding and fortifying the Iranian Army's naval zones in the south serves the Navy's plans for staging a strong presence and accomplishing missions in the high seas.
Admiral Sayyari further announced that his forces will set up more naval zones in the country's southern waters in the near future.
The Iranian Navy inaugurated several projects in the southern port city of Jask on the rims of the Persian Gulf on Wednesday which will help strengthen the Navy's strategic influence in high seas as well as the Indian Ocean.
Sayyari also took part in the inauguration ceremonies of two more navy projects in Jask today. The second project inaugurated on the day pertained to the construction of a special jetty for the Navy's speed boats, while the third ceremony attend by the Admiral was held to mark the launch of operation of a new military airport in the port city of Jask.
Addressing participants in the third ceremony, Sayyari said that the airport would handle "different types of flights".
