US Legislators Seek Stricter Measures Against Iran | ||

New measures would send a strong, clear signal to Tehran that it must abandon its nuclear program.
March 09, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Once again US officials have called for stricter sanctions against Iran as punishment for the Middle Eastern country’s relentless pursuit of a domestic nuclear program.
Members of the House of Representative, a legislative body closely affiliated with the Wall Street stock exchange, and the US Senate, another legislative body acting as a representative of big corporations, have called for additional sanctions on Iran. The two seek unilateral measures with or without any support from China and Russia. Earlier a statement issued by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said new measures would send a strong, clear signal to Tehran that it must abandon its nuclear program or it will be deprived of joining the global economy’s supposedly fast-moving caravan.
Strangely enough, many well-to-do US officials believe that the US is still a leader for a ruined global economy and that continues to be a major source of envy by other less-advanced countries. Unfortunately this is another misinformation campaign propagated by the US officials.
Recently, a well-known investigative journalist Gareth Porter revealed that contrary to all the previously issued statements, Marjah has never been a city of 80,000 inhabitants but rather a large farming district covering a 200 square kilometres area. It's now clear that the US was trying to show off its great military power to the world by capturing a major Taliban city. Also, making progress in its global war against terrorism following billions of taxpayers money allocated to military adventures by the Obama administration.
In a similar vein, the US strives to portray itself as the leader of the global economy having the power to impose crippling sanctions on Iran. Many leading economists have already warned Washington about the limits of imposing sanctions on a country like Iran, but still some US officials maintain their failed policies like in the past.
