Saakashviili Defended the Airing of a Controversial Fake Show

Georgian President, a staunch supporter of the US, blames Russia for all the ills he could find happening in his country.

March 16, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Georgian President, whose country is embroiled in finding a cohesive national plan to deal with its large and important neighbours, supported a controversial news clip aired on the Georgian TV channel on Sunday.

Mikhail Saakashvili, who like the former Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yushchenko, continues to be a staunch supporter of the US and Western values, blames Russia for all the ills he could find happening in his country. Saakashvili said that the Imedi TV’s fake news report was the closest thing to what may happen one day to his nation.

The report showed Russian troops under order from top officials launched an invasion of Georgia and captured the capital city Tbilisi, like the way it was during the early 20th century. But the report also caused widespread panic across the country for many people didn’t know what was going on when they watched the program. Later Imedi TV, officials apologized for causing a disturbance and failing to attach a simulation caption on the screen during the course of the entire report.

But like Saakashvili, Imedi TV officials defended the overall purpose of this fake news saying it obstructed Russia’s aggressive plans against Georgia. Opposition leaders were also shown supporting the invasion of Georgia.

Nino Burjanadze, the leader of Democratic Movement of United Georgia Party, who has recently met with Russian officials condemned the airing of this fake report and promised to take actions against the perpetrators.

But according to Saakashvili, anyone who shakes hands with ones whose hands are covered in Georgian peoples’ blood cannot have any dignity. Saakashvili was referring to opposition leaders shaking hands with Russian officials during a meeting.
