No Discussions on Iran's Nuclear Issue at the UNSC at This Time: Lavrov.
March 17, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Moscow, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov talking to reporters yesterday said the United Nations Security Council is not discussing the Iranian nuclear issue right now.
The UNSC meeting currently underway in New York is engaged in discussing other issues and not the Iranian nuclear issue. Lavrov’s announcement comes at a time when US-led Western powers seek to exert political pressures on Tehran through economic sanctions.
The US government after receiving negative responses from China, Brazil and other leading members of the international community feels increasingly isolated with respect to imposition of sanctions against Iran.
The Russian Foreign Minister dismissed any unilateral measures by the Group of 5+1 members and instead recommended a generally coordinated policy where all the members should take active participation.
In this way the Russian Foreign Minister has once again reminded the Americans that there is still room for further negotiations on the Iranian nuclear dossier and the best possible solution should come through diplomatic means.
