The US has softened its earlier tough approach over crippling sanctions against Tehran, when it faced negative responses from both Russia and China.
March 26, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Russian official says launching of the Bushehr nuclear power plant next summer is not in violation of international norms and it must not be linked to possible new sanctions on the country.
‘It would be wrong to make any links between the construction and the launch of the plant and the growing need to take new measures towards Tehran,’ Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said yesterday in Moscow. That was in response to ongoing US allegations over the Iranian nuclear program.
Last week US secretary of state Hillary Clinton said Iran could divert its nuclear program to build nuclear weapons, a charged denied by Tehran. Nesternko reaffirmed Russia’s decision to launch the plant in the summer all under IAEA safeguards. ‘Spent fuel deliveries to Iran will be returned to Russia with the IAEA's seal according to the standards of all the existing technology in this field,’ he said.
The US has softened its earlier tough approach over crippling sanctions against Tehran, when it faced negative responses from both Russia and China. Moscow and Beiing say there is still plenty of space available for negotiations until all possible venues would be exhausted.
The US supported by the Israeli regime wants a strong action to bring an end to Iranian nuclear program saying because of dangers posed by Iran, the country must have no access to nuclear technology. Russia and China on the other hand seek a more rational approach towards the Iranian program.
Moscow while maintaining a good relationship with Tehran wants Tehran clarifies the nature of its domestic program in a transparent way. The Russain FM spokesman said Moscow might support a more stringent set of sanctions against Tehran, but only the ones that target non-proliferation. Nesterenko said, ‘measures against Iran must not aim at the financial and economic suffocation of the country.’
Russia has been working on Bushehr completion for many years and the project undergone repeated delays. Last week, Russian Prime Minister Vladmir Putin confirmed the launch of Bushehr next summer.
