Sanctions will tend to isolate the country, thus hurting the population particularly the poorest people more than anything else: Amorim.
April 07, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Brazil’s Foreign Minister Celso Amorim has once again conveyed Brazil’s rejection of imposing sanction on Iran saying sanctions would be ineffective against a country such as Iran. He said Brazil is interested to maintain ties with Tehran.
’A regime like Iran's, with sanctions, will tend to radicalize, dig in its heels, joining opposition and government in a position of intransigence,’ Amorim said during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
According to Amorim sanctions will tend to isolate the country, thus hurting the population particularly the poorest people more than anything else. ’It's not a question of Brazil being for or against Iran. Brazil is in favor of peace and negotiated solutions, Brazil wants to have relations (with Iran) like it does with other big countries,’ he stated.
