Nuclear proliferation threats, wherever their source, must effectively be addressed without discrimination and double standard: Indonesian F.M. May 04, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Indonesian top official attending UN nuclear conference in New York urged Israel to join the NPT without further delay. The Foreign Minister of Indonesia Raden Mohammad Marty Muliana Natalegawa speaking at the UN podium in New York on Monday said, the world must succeed on bringing Israel into NPT. ‘Nuclear proliferation threats, wherever their source, must effectively be addressed without discrimination and double standard on the basis of multilateralism and international law.
Indonesia is not the only country demanding Israeli participation in global nuclear disarmament. Tel-Aviv was handed nuclear weapons by the United States, France and Britain. Strangely enough now the trio is posing itself as some law-abiding entity that cares too much about the global security. Yesterday, under the watchful eyes of the world, representatives from the US, France and the UK sneaked out of the meeting while Iran's President was delivering a speech.
These three countries today loudly claim that they have a mission to set safety standards for other nations where in fact Washington, Paris and London were very silent while transferring nuclear materials to a non-NPT member in secret and in direct violations of the NPT from 1950's onward.
Meanwhile in Tehran Iranian FM spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast called for an independent verification of a recent United States’ claim regarding the number of its nuclear warheads to be carried out by a reliable international agency.
Washington has declared the number of its nuclear weapons at over 5000 during the UN conference perhaps in a bid to show some sincerity and transparency towards the global community.
