In coming years, however, the military might be tasked with fighting these kinds of wars in different places and at different levels. May 15, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - US Army second in command tells Center for Strategic and International Studies-sponsored forum, of the North American countries intention to drag on the war in Afghanistan for the next 5 to 10 years, a war that began in 2001 under the pretext of combating terrorism. According to Marine Corps. General James Cartwright, the US army engagement in Afghanistan would continue these kinds of conflicts for another 5 to 10 years. Cartwright said no one he knows thinks that the US military will be out of similar kinds of conflicts any time soon. Faced with untold economic - social changes, the United States has been involved in unending wars particularly in and around oil rich regions since September 11 events. US ruling elites have full knowledge that the country will never be able to resolve the current economic malaise gripping Western financial establishment. US-led NATO wars in oil rich regions are good excuses to mask this downward trend, boost military related manufacturing industries and help ease massive unemployment to some degree. ‘There is nothing out there that tells us we won’t be wrapped up in these conflicts for as far as the eye can see, the question is, how many bomber squadrons do we need versus how many troops expert at stability operations. In coming years, however, the military might be tasked with fighting these kinds of wars in different places and at different levels,’ Cartwright said at the forum.
