The deal labelled as the last chance for the United States, France and Britain to show the world that they are willing to give up their past deeds and make real changes that comply with standard norms of behaviour. May 17, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Ne) - Iran reportedly has finally agreed to a nuclear swap deal brokered by visiting Turkish and Brazilian presidents to Iran this morning. The deal envisions guarantees for Iran to receive back higher enriched uranium at certain period. The type of guarantees however was not mentioned. Based on latest information Iran has agreed to ship 1200 kg low enriched uranium to Turkey and receive back 120 kg of higher enriched uranium. It wasn’t clear when Iran would actually receive the fuel since Western countries have had repeatedly renegade on their contracts before. But today it seems both Turkish and Brazilian President have backed strict guarantees to provide nuclear fuel supply for Tehran’s medical reactor. Iran’s Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said, ‘based on the agreement signed this morning, if the swap does not take place, then Turkey will be obliged to send back our dispatched uranium immediately and unconditionally.’ Iran currently possesses over 2400 kg of low enriched uranium and if today’s contract takes place it means Tehran would ship nearly half of its low enriched uranium out of the country. The country has in recent months stepped up nuclear enrichment program by installing P2 centrifuge machines that can speed up enrichment process over a limited time period. The deal labelled as the last chance for the United States, France and Britain to show the world that they are willing to give up their past deeds and make real changes that comply with standard norms of behaviour.
