Unlike secret torture camps operated by the US Army at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib all court proceedings in Cuba are strictly carried out by civil courts. May 18, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Ne) - Cuba’s senior official blasted European Union for unfounded allegations on state of human rights in Cuba. The European Union has been following similar political maneuverings like those deployed by Washington against other countries in recent years. In an interview with TV channel Telecino, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said the European Union itself lacks the necessary moral authority to talk about human rights in Cuba. He went on saying that continued antagonism by the EU towards Cuba would make normalization of ties nearly impossible. The revolutionary Latin American nation, Cuba, has been under an intense US, Western economic and political sanctions ever since the Cuban Revolution succeeded to overthrow dictator Fulgencio Batista on January 1, 1959. Despite years of pressures the Cuban people have achieved one of the highest levels of human development factors amongst countries of the world. The Cuban Foreign Minister reminded the EU that his country does not have any political prisoners only common types of prisoners found in all other countries around the world. And unlike secret torture camps ran by the US Army at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib all court proceedings are strictly carried out by civil courts. Oddly, over the past several years, the European Human Right Commission has failed to address widespread human rights violations at Guanatanamo and Abu Ghraib. Historically both the US and European Union have inflated views about their own worth when it comes to human right issue in other countries. They tend to see themselves as guardians and specialists on human rights often ignoring hideous cases of human right abuses in their countries.
