Iranian Relief Supply Ships Ready to Leave for Gaza Strip

The important issue is that the people of Gaza know that more than 100,000 Iranians are ready to come to their help: An Iranian Red Crescent Official.

Tehran, June 14, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s Red Crescent Society announced two of its humanitarian aid ships are ready to set sail for Gaza while another ship would be ready next week. These ships are waiting to receive final clearances from the Iranian Foreign Ministry AFP reported on Sunday.

Meanwhile an Iranian Red Crescent official, Mojtaba Majd, said there are over 100,000 Iranian volunteers ready to sail to Gaza on those ships. However, he didn’t elaborate as what’s preventing those volunteers from doing so at this time. He only mentioned that it was important for Gazans to know of the moral support they could receive by those 100,000 volunteers.

‘The important issue is that the people of Gaza know that more than 100,000 Iranians are ready to come to their help,’ he said. The ships are loaded with humanitarian aid including food and medicine. It is not yet known if the Iranian ships could reach Gaza Strip, since Israel is expected to stop any ships from sailing toward Gaza.

Two weeks ago an Israeli attack on six-ship flotilla carrying humanitarian supply to Gaza killed at least 9 civilians on board the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara. Another ship Rachel Corrie MV was also hijacked near Gaza maritime waters and taken to the port city of Ashdod in Israel.
