US Government Denies Extension for Unemployment Benefits

Millions of unemployed would from now on lose their benefits as the US Senate rejects a bill aimed at prolonging coverage period.

June 26, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - More ominous economic signs are emerging out of the united States at the time when leaders from G20 countries gather in Toronto to tackle the aftermath of the disastrous US-lad casino capitalism’s new world order endangering the whole humanity.

Faced with tens of trillions of dollars in deficit the US government struggling in its inability to harness an economic decline, plans to take away what little wealth remains in the hands of the poor, elderly, unemployed, minorities and kids. On Thursday, the US Senate finally rejected a bill that would have extended unemployment benefits to tens of thousands of eligible people in the state of Arizona.

Over 38,000 people who qualified for extended benefits will have their checks stopped from now on. Arizona has been hit hard by the devastating economic recession of 2008.  There are over 157,000 unemployed people in Arizona currently on unemployment benefits. Nationally, unemployment benefits would start to disappear at the rate of 200,000 cases per week following the Senate ruling.

While the Obama administration approves an $800 billion budget for its military machine to engage in futile wars in the Middle East and elsewhere, the same government refuses to pay only $16 billion in aids to states so people could weather the current turmoil until this great recession is over. Although it is an open secret that United States' involvements in such wars near oil rich regions are essential for prolonging its speculatively-based bubble economy at the time when the US dollar is directly pegged to the amount of oil consumed worldwide.

Arizona’s official unemployment rate stands at 10 percent, but real unemployment is hovering near 25 percent or more, meaning one in every four eligible workers are effectively out of jobs.
