Turkey Warns Israel of Sanctions

If Israel does not want an international commission, then it has to acknowledge this crime, apologize, and pay compensation: Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu.

July 10, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has once again called on the Israeli regime to respect the international conventions and agree to an independent fact finding mission over the Gaza-bound aid flotilla killings to be carried out as soon as possible.

In his latest warning to Tel-Aviv Davutoglu stated Turkey and the international would like to see that justice is being implemented. ‘There is an action, a crime here. Turkey's demand is rather lucid. Since the case involves death of civilians and the killing side is acknowledged, it is expected that an international commission should be formed and make its decision with respect to the facts in the frame of objective provisions of law. If Israel does not want an international commission, then it has to acknowledge this crime, apologize, and pay compensation,’ said Turkish FM in an interview with Newsweek, on Saturday.

Israel has so far dismissed Turkish call for an official apology, compensation and an end to Gaza blockade. Turkey lost 9 of its citizens during Israeli onslaught against civilians on board six-ship humanitarian flotilla last month. Ankara has repeatedly asked the Israelis to acknowledge the truth behind killing of innocent Turkish civilians, but Israel snobbishly refuses Turkey’s legitimate demands.

'If the international community and the international law do not question the causes of these deaths, we, as the government of the Republic of Turkey, have the right to ask. Turkey-Israel relations will never be on a normal footing until we have an answer, and Turkey has the right to impose a unilateral sanction of its own against Israel,’ Davutoglu added. He again warned Israelis that if they continue their disregards for justice, Turkey would be ready to severe diplomatic ties with Tel-Aviv.
