Amiri Reconfirms Abduction by US-Backed Agents Upon His Return

US officials again changed their story, this time claiming that Amiri provided them with information they had been looking for in return for a guaranteed happy life in the United States including perhaps a lot of money, a wife and an automobile.

Tehran, July 15, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) -  Iranian researcher at one of the country's universities Shahram Amiri has returned home after a 14-month ordeal in the United States where he lived a secluded life in captivity under US security agents’ constant surveillances.

He arrived at Tehran’s Emam Khomeini airport after a brief stop in Doha- Qatar. Upon his arrival in Qatar airport, Amiri told Al-Jazeera that he was kidnapped with the help of the Saudis and subsequently placed under physical and psychological strains in the United States. ‘The freedom to communicate with my family and to express myself in an ordinary fashion was not granted.’ Amiri said. ‘I had been forced by US authorities to say in a video released on the internet that I was enjoying life in the state of Arizona.’ He added.

In the meantime, US government officials faced with the growing dilemma on how to whitewash this heinous crime have changed their version of events several times so far. Initially they said that Amiri was in the United States- a country with the world's largest number of prisoners - on his own free will. Then a fabricated CIA video clip of a man impersonating himself as Amiri was shown on the internet in which the person claimed he was happily living in the United States and completing his studies. Following Amiri’s return to Iran, US officials again changed their story, this time claiming that Amiri provided them with information they had been looking for in return for a guaranteed happy life in the United States including perhaps a lot of money, a wife and an automobile.

Yesterday, an anonymous US official told reporters that Amiri received 5 million dollars from US but after his return to Iran, he would not be able to use the money because of financial sanctions imposed against the oil-rich Middle Eastern country. ‘The payments are part of a clandestine CIA program referred to as the ‘brain drain’ and its aim is to use incentives to induce scientists and other officials with information on Iran's nuclear program to defect.’ The US-based newspaper Washington Post wrote on Wednesday.

This morning in Tehran, Iranian officials dismissed reports of Shahram Amiri being a nuclear scientist  Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi told reporters, 'Shahram Amiri is not a nuclear scientist but he is a researcher in one of the universities in Iran.'  Amiri has promised to reveal the actual version of events when he’s back to Iran in which case the whole world will find out more about it soon.
