July 21, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - In yet another sign of rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, US defense secretary Robert Gates and secretary of state Hillary Clinton visited the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the two Koreas, yesterday.

The visit and planned joint military exercise this weekend boost anxiety levels in the region at the time when more than two million troops face each other across the border.

The United States being the leading advocate of post World War II modern oil-wobbling capitalism, is sinking deeper into a systemic economic collapse and underpinning of its very economic fundamentals. America's large military apparatus therefore desperately seeks some form of a major military confrontation in other parts of the globe. Such a confrontation could help divert attentions away from its domestic issues. The Korean Peninsula has been one Washington’s favorite hot spots in East Asia to contain China, Japan and Korea since the end of WWII.

‘We continue to send a message to the North: that there is another way, but until they change direction, the United States stands firmly on behalf of the people and the government of the Republic of Korea,’ said US secretary of state Hillary Clinton during her visit to DMZ.  Also US defense secretary, whose comparison of the consumer-based industrial progress in South Korea to that of North Korea was an indication of the United States’ overall prophecy about how every part of the world should be like, said ‘In the 20 years since I last climbed that observation tower and looked out across the DMZ, it's stunning how little has changed up there and yet how much South Korea continues to grow and prosper.’

In a signed commentary by the North Korean official news agency KCNA, Pyongyang blasted US and South Korean plans to raise hostilities on the Korean Peninsula. Following is the full text of the latest commentary by KCNA: 

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA)

The puppet Ministry of National Defense of south Korea on July 15 announced that south Korea-U.S. joint military exercises would be staged in the East and West Seas of Korea within this month and its specific action plan would be decided upon at "the talks between the U.S. and south Korean diplomatic and defense chiefs" slated to take place in Seoul on July 21.

Minju Joson Tuesday observes in a signed commentary in this regard:

The joint military exercises to be staged by the group of traitors together with its U.S. master despite strong public protest and denunciation at home and abroad are a very dangerous saber-rattling aimed at further straining the already deadlocked inter-Korean relations and igniting a nuclear war against the DPRK, while watching for a chance.

What should not be overlooked is that the operational theatres of the military exercises will be areas along the Military Demarcation Line including the waters of the West Sea where fierce armed skirmishes took place between the north and the south several times. This foretells the exercises may trigger off an all-out war.

The puppet warmongers describe the projected joint military exercises as "counteractions against the provocation of the north", "demonstration of the muscle to deter the north" and "demonstration of armed forces against the north" in a bid to hide their danger. This is, however, nothing but rhetoric to mislead public opinion at home and abroad.

The Lee Myung Bak group is leaving no means untried to save its policy of confrontation with fellow countrymen from a total fiasco and stifle the DPRK through the above-said saber-rattling, but this will get it nowhere.

The warmongers would be well advised to behave themselves, bearing deep in mind the consequences to be entailed by the above-said war moves, urges the commentary.
