The blast on the deck of a Japanese Supertanker M. Star, was caused by a lack of balance in the volume of ship's natural gases: Omani Royal Police.
Tehran, July 29, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - An explosion occurred on the deck of a Japanese supertanker M. Star, carrying crude oil from the region to Japan while it was sailing outside Iranian territorial waters on Wednesday, FNA reported an informed source as saying.
The source said the explosion happened outside of the Straight of Hormuz and Iranian territorial waters. ‘The tanker's deck caught fire for unknown reasons outside the Strait (Hormuz) and outside Iran's territorial waters and the ship was later transferred to Diba port in Oman with the help of the Omani forces,’ the source said on the condition of anonymity.
Earlier western media outlets reported that an explosion on M. Star Japanese supertanker occurred at the time it was sailing in the Straight of Hormuz. The ships captain told AP that the vessel may have been attacked, but other than that the cause of explosion was not immediately known. In Oman, the country’s Royal Police investigation into the blast said a lack of balance in the volume of ship's natural gases had caused the blast. The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow strategic waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to Oman Sea.
