Nuclear Generated Electricity to Join National Grid Within 3 Months

We are doing our best efforts in a bid to have the Bushehr nuclear power plant reach 50% of its nominal power within three months: Iran's Head of Atomic Agency.

Tehran, August 15, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi told reporters within 3 month after its launch Bushehr will join national electricity grid network.

‘The country will use nuclear-generated electricity two to three months after the launching of Iran’s first nuclear power plant,’  Salehi said during a press conference in Tehran, Saturday.

Russia’s Rosatom chief Sergei Kiriyenko is scheduled to fly to Bushehr next Friday for the opening ceremony. Earlier he said Russian technicians alongside their Iranian counterparts will transfer nuclear fuel inside the reactor this week. He said Bushehr would then be considered a live nuclear installation.

The process of installing fuel rods should take about two weeks and after that another two to three months period is required that steam generators pick-up enough power for electricity generation. ‘We are doing our best efforts in a bid to have the Bushehr nuclear power plant reach 50% of its nominal power three months after the launch of its operation and at that time the atomic (generated) electricity will join the national grid,’ Iran’s Head of Atomic Agency said.
