Initially Israeli defense officials blamed the killings on Islamic extremists on board the ships, but later switched the blame on some technical glitches including a lack of preparation by IDF before the incident. August 25, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Israel once again refuses to cooperate with the Turkel panel which has been set up to investigate a blatant night raid on a Turkish vessel carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza strip by Israelis, last May. A UN official overseeing the panel, Juan Carlos Monge, said Tel Aviv continues to refuse free access to officials and witness in charge of the operation against the humanitarian flotilla unlike Turkey and Jordan that cooperate fully with the investigative team. Earlier Israeli officials expressed contradictory assessments of flotilla attack but were uniform in their defiance of any wrongdoings by Israeli troops in international waters. Initially Israeli defense officials blamed the killings on Islamic extremists on board the ships, but later switched the blame on some technical glitches including a lack of preparation by IDF before the incident. This isn’t the first time Israel defies the will international community. In the past, Tel Aviv refused to allow proper UN investigations on atrocities committed against Palestinians and also a steadfast refusal to open its clandestine nuclear program to the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors. Although relatively small in size, located in an historic - environmentally delicate Mediterranean region, Israel continues to build and stockpile nuclear weapons with helps from the United States and its shrinking network of western allies.
