Iranian officials said they would be willing to release Sarah Shourd on a $500,000 bail as she would be required to attend court proceedings in the future.
Tehran, September 12, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian judiciary authorities have announced that they are ready to free a female US detainee, Sarah Emily Shourd, on bail since investigation surrounding her case is ongoing. The 31 year old US citizen was arrested along with two other upon crossing Iran-Iraq border in Kurdistan Province near the town of Marivan in July last year.
Some earlier reports indicated that one of the detainees could be released due to her physical condition and Islamic compassion towards women. But then Iranian Judiciary authorities said due to spying charges against the detainees, Shourd’s discharge would be postponed until investigation has been completed. Today however Iranian officials said they would be willing to release Sarah Shourd on a $500,000 bail as she would be required to attend court proceedings in the future. Tehran’s prosecutor general Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi told Fars News Agency, ‘an indictment has been issued for the three US nationals.’ Iran’s Foreign Ministery also announced the three US citizens were found to have had suspicious intentions by crossing the border and they would stand trial soon. "The three American citizens will be tried by Iran's judiciary system and the relevant judiciary verdicts on their cases will be issued,'' Mottaki said as quoted by Fars News Agency.
