At the UN, Obama Talked to a Small Circle of Listeners

Obama: Let me be clear once more, the United States and the international community seek a resolution to our differences with Iran, and the door remains open to diplomacy.

September 23, 2010 (Hamsayeh.net) - As if only talking to himself and a small group of followers, the most dualistic president in US history, Barack Obama once again stood at the UN podium and expressed similar encouraging words in the midst of some great calamities from poverty, hunger, environment, war to economic collapse facing the planet at this moment.

As far as everyone can remember, Obama is the only US President who has the courage to just stand there and talk precisely in opposition to what is really happening around.

People can remember him calling for an immediate end to Iraq war but then witness troops were kept there to continue fighting certain illusory enemies. During his election campaign Obama said families earning less than an specified amount of salary would not pay a single cent in tax. Later he introduced many taxes for people in that same exact income bracket.

He promised a quick end to war in Afghanistan, based on  his troops surge strategy. But he soon grasped that Taliban are far more resilient than he initially imagined. After more than nine years of futile fighting in an impoverished country, how come Obama didn’t figure that the Taliban are such good fighters and can put up stiff resistance?

Obama said he was going to call for an investigation into G.W. Bush’s presidency under an independent war tribunal although quickly reversed this promise when he became President. Not long after Obama delivered his friendship speech in Cairo calling for building friendly ties with the Islamic world that he ordered unmanned drones attack remote villages inside Pakistani Waziristan thereby killing many innocent bystanders including women and children.

In his UN speech today, Obama again called for a constructive dialogue with the Islamic world. He said he wants to encourage talks between the Palestinians and Israelis to establish a lasting peace in the region. He said the door for dialogue with Iran is still open. Urging diplomacy with regards to Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, Obama said, ‘Let me be clear once more: the United States and the international community seek a resolution to our differences with Iran, and the door remains open to diplomacy should Iran choose to walk through it.’

With respect to this last point, it was a year ago around this time when Obama pressed for a nuclear fuel swap deal between Iran and a third country. However after Iran had reached a conclusive agreement with Turkey and Brazil in Tehran for a nuclear fuel swap deal, the Obama administration immediately rejected it without further explanation.
