Cuba Defeats Iran and Russian Teams at Chess Olympiad |

So far Ukraine stands at the top followed by Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Hungarian teams. September 30, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Powerful Cuban men and women chess teams beat Iran and Russia in the 8th round at the 39th World Chess Olympiad in Russia’s Siberian Autonomous Republic of Khantia-Mansia, city of Khanty-Mansiysk. Cuban men’s team with Leinier Dominguez 2716, Lazaro Bruzon 2679, Yuniesky Quesada 2614 and Holden Hernandez 2563, drew Ehsan Ghaem Maghami 2594, Elshan Moradibadi 2578 and defeated Morteza Mahjoob 2529 and Homayoon Toufighi 2499, respectively. The successful round placed Cuba at 10th place in the overall ranking. Cuba’s women team also beat Russia 3 with clear victory of 3.5 to 0.5 and 7th place. Yesterday’s results were: Russia1 drew Ukraine 2-2, Azerbaijan drew Hungary 2-2 and Russia3 drew Estonia 2-2. Armenia defeated Poland 2.5-1.5, France defeated Russia2 2.5-1.5, Georgia defeated Belarus 2.5- 1.5 and Holland defeated Israel 1-3, Brazil defeated Kyrgyzstan 2.5-1.5, Argentina was defeated by Norway 0.5-3.5, Colombia defeated Ireland 3.5-0.5, Mexico defeated Indonesia 2.5-1.5, Chile defeated Portugal 3-1 and Peru was defeated by Iceland 0.5-3.5. In the overall ranking so far Ukraine stands at the top followed by Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Hungarian teams.
