‘We will continue such attacks all over the country to avenge drone attacks and attacks by foreign forces inside Pakistani territory,’ a Taliban spokesman said after the attack. October 05, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Taliban fighters set ablaze two dozen oil tankers on their way to Afghanistan through Pakistan, on Monday. There have been several such attacks in recent days on supply trucks from Pakistani port of Karachi to US and NATO forces based in Afghanistan. The route is an all important supply line for US’ futile war efforts in the area since almost 10 years. US started its war on Afghanistan presuming it could finish off the mighty Taliban within short order, using warplanes or drone attacks on women and children living in remote villages in Pakistan and Afghanistan. At this time, the Afghan war is entering its tenth anniversary with Taliban clearly wielding the upper hand against more than two hundred thousand US and NATO troops in that impoverished country. Monday’s attack was carried out as a retaliation against desperate use of drone strikes on Pashtun civilian population living in northern Waziristan province of Pakistan close to the Afghan border. US and NATO employ local drivers for the dangerous task of carrying supplies from Pakistani port of Karachi to Afghanistan. Taliban fighters have so far refrained from targeting local truck drivers but destroyed only oil tankers and killed several private security guards that were protecting convoys. ‘We will continue such attacks all over the country to avenge drone attacks and attacks by foreign forces inside Pakistani territory,’ a Taliban spokesman said after the attack. Afghan fighters have vowed to stop all supplies from now on. Supplies transported through Pakistan are crucial for foreign forces based in Afghanistan. Meanwhile more and more Pakistani people pressure their corrupt officials to stop providing leap services for US-led war against Afghanistan and now Pakistan itself. Also yesterday, 5 US-led troops died in separated incidents in Afghanistan. At least 561 US-led NATO troops have lost their lives in Afghanistan so far this year, making 2010 the deadliest year for NATO since the US-led invasion of the country nine years ago.
