The Suxnet virus claimed by Western media to have infected Iran’s main computer system at the Bushehr plant, has been detected and controlled: Official. October 11, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Yesterday, Iranian intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi said experts have discovered malicious software designed to infect the country’s industrial sites particularly the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. The worm known as Stuxnet has been detected and put under control, Iran’s ISNA news agency reported. The Intelligence Minister told ISNA, ‘the Suxnet virus claimed by Western media to have infected Iran’s main computer system at the Bushehr plant, has been detected and controlled.’ About two weeks ago, a news report in Western media pointed at a cyber attack against Iranian industrial system in what appeared to be an attack by another country. Experts continue to suspect the Stuxnet virus was either programmed in the United States or Israel as a way to cause some delays in Iranian nuclear program. Stuxnet has been designed to attack computer programs based on Siemens software, often used by Iran’s industries including water supplies, oil rigs and power plants. In the mean time, chief of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, downplayed Stuxnet’s ability to cause damage to Bushehr’s specific control system or any other industrial units across the country. Last week, Salehi announced the Bushehr would be ready to receive nuclear fuel inside its main core by the middle of October. He said recent delays were caused by a small leakage at an auxiliary tank that had been detected and promptly repaired by technicians.
