At this time technicians are installing a complex pulley system designed to drive the steel capsule dubbed ‘Phoenix’ up and down through a 66 cm diameter shaft like an elevator.

October 12, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Rescue teams are getting ready to begin pulling out 33 trapped miners one-by-one from under 650 meters of earth after more than two months.

Chile’s mining minister Laurence Golborne announced workers are just completing final arrangements for rescue to being as soon as possible. “We are just a few hours to start this process,” Golborne said as reported by Reuters.

At this time technicians are installing a complex pulley system designed to drive the steel capsule dubbed ‘Phoenix’ up and down through a 66 cm diameter shaft like an elevator. Rescue teams have already installed reinforcement lining along 55 meters of the shaft to prevent it from collapsing. The remaining part of the shaft is expected to withstand Phoenix’s movement.

Family members have been waiting for this moment patiently. Government of Chile is offering lucrative compensation to the trapped miners once they are freed.
