Supplying N.Fuel For Tehran Reactor Falls Within IAEA's Responsibilities
Tehran, Dec. 29, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Yesterday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast told reporters Iran is still waiting for Western response to its nuclear proposal.
The spokesman urged the IAEA to promptly supply the needed nuclear fuel for Tehran reactor without further conditions. He said Iranian nuclear program especially Tehran’s reactor activities are fully transparent and therefore there is no need to further delay supply of its fuel from foreign producers any longer.
In fact the IAEA should supply the fuel since the action falls well within the agency’s declared objectives within the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Mihman-Parast rejected Western talks regarding deadlines saying ‘If we can see a deadline there, it would be a deadline for the opposite side because we have put forward our proposal waiting for their constructive move,’ he stated.
Last week the White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs warned of a looming deadline until the end of 2009 for Iran to accept what he called a nuclear proposal by the international community. In response, Iranian spokesman said Iranians are still waiting to hear from 5+1 about the nuclear swap deal proposed by Iran.
In other news the director of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi informed journalists that certain Western countries want Tehran to withdraw from the NPT. "I believe that some Western countries, which are unfortunately affected by international Zionism, are trying to force Iran to withdraw from the NPT so that they can create an anti-Iran climate in the international arena," Ali-Akbar Salehi said as quoted by ISNA quoted on Tuesday.
Salehi also said despite all the flaws associated with IAEA activities and the NPT, it more or less contributes to international peace. ‘ We hope that the wise part of the West will overcome its irrational part so that it can seize the opportunity offered by Iran to end the current situation," he said.
