Venezuela Tells the Netherlands To Stop Helping US' Drone Flights | |||
US Drones Continually Infringe into Venezuelan Airspace
Caracas, Jan. 01, 10 (Hamsayeh.Net) - The Venezuelan government warned the US against flying into its airspace using bases in the islands of Aruba and Curacao off the Venezuelan coast. Caracas also accused the Dutch government of helping the United States to prepare for a military attack on Venezuela from the islands.
The Venezuelan government statement on Thursday said that it considers US infringement of its airspace an act of aggression and called for the international community to condemn the moves by the US.
‘The subsequent violation of Venezuelan airspace on the part of the US military aircraft... allows us to conclude that the warmongering US government, in league with the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is preparing an aggression against the territory and people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.’ The statement said.
Last month, during the climate summit in Copenhagen Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez accused the Netherlands of providing military bases for US drones to fly over Venezuela. The Dutch government rejected the claims saying it is only helping the US combat drug related activities in the area.
The US and other countries in South America including Colombia have been closely cooperating against what they term as a war on drugs and mafias in the region for over 50 years without achieving the slightest success.
