Iran Plans To Screen All US Visitors

MP: N. Swap Only Inside the Country's Territory

Tehran, January 11, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran from now on plans to screen all U.S. citizens applying for tourist visas to enter the country in reaction to similar measures practiced by the US to screen travelers from Iran, IRNA quoted MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi saying yesterday.

Even though the US has lost much of its attractions both in terms of a tourist destination and as the land of golden opportunities, those in Washington continue to device plans that would further segregate the North American nation of 300 million from the rest of the civilized world, through a process known as isolationism. Moreover, given the ever-increasing occurrences of violent crimes across the US, only the very adventurous visitors could have the courage to pay a visit to the United States, anyway.

Despite all of these facts, US officials recently approved a plan to screen all visitors from certain countries including Iran. Tehran reacted in kind when US decided to finger print foreign visitors and today in addition to fingerprinting visitors it begins the screening process for all American tourists.

Boroujedi, who heads the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, informed reporters on Iran’s decision to enrich uranium fuel to 20 percent purity level, should Western countries fail to recognize Tehran’s goodwill and refuse the supply of nuclear fuel for its medical reactor. According to Boroujerdi, the sole reactor in Tehran produces radioisotopes for 800,000 people on daily bases, and therefore its importance cannot be underestimated. In this way, Iran would need the fuel in a timely manner and if Western countries do not supply it soon, then Iran will begin 20 percent enrichment.

Furthermore, the top MP rejected recent Western reports about Iran agreeing to exchange nuclear fuel outside its own territory. Boroujerdi said the nuclear fuel swap must take place inside the Iranian territory and the West should try to find a way out of the current stalemate, as reported by IRNA.

Some Western countries including France have repeatedly renegade on their commitments at the highest level of their governments to provide or supply nuclear related technologies/material to Iran. For this reason, Tehran calls for concrete guarantees when dealing with Western countries on nuclear fuel exchange.
