Latin Leaders Warn of US Plans to Occupy Haiti | |||
US Troops are occupying Haiti undercover: ChavezJanuary 18, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez accused the United States of taking advantage of the situation in Haiti after the devastating earthquake hit the island country last week, Chavez said.
Americans plan to occupy the country by sending thousands of US troops under the guise of humanitarian aids to this poor Caribbean nation. ‘I read that 3,000 soldiers are arriving, Marines armed as if they were going to war. There is not a shortage of guns there, my God. Doctors, medicine, fuel, field hospitals, that's what the United States should send,’ Reuters reported Chavez saying on his weekly television show.
Chavez went on saying, ‘On top of that, you don't see them in the streets. Are they picking up bodies? ... Are they looking for the injured? You don't see them. I haven't seen them. Where are they?’
Earlier, the white house announced it is sending 5000 US troops as well as a hospital ship to help the quake victims. Other countries including Cuba have sent medical doctors to the region. Venezuela plans to supply all the needed gasoline due to extensive fuel shortages. However the US is repeating the way it sees itself in relation to others nations and people mainly that of a police officer. The Haitian President said US troops can help put down increasing lawlessness on the streets.
Also, yesterday, Nicaraguan President warned against US’ troops deployment in that Haiti. Ortega said the US troops are only repatriating the Americans and not anyone else. The people said American forces are monopolizing the airfield's single runway to evacuate their own citizens.
It is estimated that 200,000 could have been killed by last Tuesday’s 7 degrees magnitude earthquake that struck the island nation of 9 million inhabitants.
