Western Nuclear Scientists Are skeptical of Iran's Ability to Enrich Uranium to Higher Levels
Tehran, January 25, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Yesterday Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iranians will soon hear ‘good news’ on 20-persent nuclear fuel used at Tehran medical reactor which supplies all of country's radioisotopes.
Ahmadinejad said his final announcement would be made on the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and without further elaboration on the topic, told reporters that ‘Everyone would be glad to hear the wonderful news as it is about the country's recent achievements in science and technology.’
Iran has informed Western countries of the group of 5+1 that it is still waiting to hear their response to a recent nuclear fuel swap proposal after October 1st talks. But the US and other Western members of the group refuse to give a final response to Iranian nuclear fuel swap offer.
Iran has set the end of January as the deadline for Western response otherwise it would start enriching own uranium fuel to 20 percent purity level in a relatively short period. Expert familiar with Iranian nuclear dossier expect that President Ahmadinejad is going to announce the beginning of 20- percent enrichment process to be the ‘Good News’ on that day.
Western nuclear scientists have voiced their skepticism regarding Iran’s ability to enrich uranium to higher levels. They say this process requires very high technical knowledge and capabilities, which according to them the Iranian technicians do not possess at this time.
