Pakistani Special Forces Join the War Against Houthis in N. Yemen
 
  

300 Pakistan Troops to Join US-led Coalition Against Houthis in Northern Yemen

27, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - An informed source in Pakistan says Pakistani troops have joined the ongoing war against the Shia fighters known as Houthis in northern Yemen.

 

The source close to the Pakistani daily Jang, revealed Pakistani troops’ active participation in Yemeni civil war in which 300 troops from Pakistani Special Forces have been deployed in Yemen. They are to join a US led multinational force against the Houthis.

 

In Yemen, beside the civil war between the Houthis and the government forces, there are factions and groups that the coalition plans to confront. One of the main faction is called the Yemeni Al Qaeda, a group that carried out a failed bombing attack on a US bound airliner last month. Saudi Arabia joined the war in Yemen citing danger posed by Shias near its southern border.

 

The Saudi air force regularly targets villages and towns inside northern Yemen so far killing and wounding many civilians. The latest revelation on Pakistan’s military involvement in Yemen comes at the when majority of Pakistanis are angry at Islamabad’s decision to help US war against the Taliban. United States military has often attacked parts of Pakistani province of Waziristan killing hundreds of innocent villagers up to now.
