Iranian Official Blames West For Ashoura Unrest | |||
German Simens AG Announced Total Withdrawal from Iranian Business by Mid-2010
Tehran, January 28, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s intelligence official accused German diplomats of being involved in Tehran’s bloody Ashura unrest on December 27.
Yesterday, the deputy intelligence minister told reporters that reportedly one the persons arrested had some contacts with German intelligence service through several German diplomats. The official said an arrested female person attended parties held by certain German diplomats and exchanged information through the Internet, regularly.
During the Ashoura, anti-government protesters held massive demonstrations in various parts of Tehran in which several people were reported killed. Iranian government blamed foreigners for the unrest. Meanwhile the German conglomerate Simens AG announced its withdrawal from Iranian business altogether by mid-2010.
The company spokesman cited Western countries growing concerns over Iran’s nuclear program as the reason for its decision. The company spokesman Wolfram Trost during an annual meeting on Tuesday, said the Simens Company is currently involved in infrastructural assignments inside Iran and not active in any nuclear related projects.
The spokesman said the company will not accept new contracts from Iran after the middle of this year. According to data Simens businesses with Iran totalled 500 million euros, a figure representing roughly 0.7 percent of the company’s annual revenue.
