Gasoline Sanctions Would be Futile: FM Official | |||
Sanctions could only strengthen Iran’s determination and march toward self-reliance.
January 29, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Tehran, January 29, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mihman-Parast told reporters this morning that threats of further sanctions could only strengthen Iran’s determination and march toward self-reliance.
The spokesman also dismissed a bill approved by the US Senate, which allowed the US President to impose a unilateral sanction on Tehran at the time of his own choosing. Mihman-Parast said gasoline embargoes on Iran would be futile. ’We have repeatedly said that the US sanctions imposed against our nation during the past 31 years, have resulted in nothing but our nations' stronger determination to assert independence and achieve self-reliance,’ Press TV quoted Mihman-Parast as saying.
The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton already warned Tehran about the only choice remaining for the international community would be to impose crippling sanctions. Similar sanctions were imposed on the regime of Saddam Hussein for years before a military invasion on Iraq took place in 2003.
Certain western countries accuse Iran of seeking weapons of mass destruction through a clandestine domestic nuclear program. However, Tehran rejects the charge saying its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes, including generation of electricity and scientific researches.
