China Blasts Washington's Military Deal With Taiwan | |||
The United States must immediately reverse the decision to sell Taiwan weapons
Tehran, January 30, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - In reaction to the US arms deal with Taiwan, China today announced suspension of a $4.5 billion military contract with Washington and imposition of sanctions on US arms companies.
‘The suspension follows in consideration of the serious harm and impacts by the $6.4 billion dollars US-Taiwan arms deal on Sino-US military relations.’ China’s Defense Ministry announced. It also said, ‘China will also impose corresponding sanctions on US companies that engage in weapons sales to Taiwan.’
The Defense Minister warned that the United States must immediately reverse the decision to sell Taiwan weapons or would have to bear all the responsibility and the serious repercussions that follow.
US and China exchanged some serious verbal attacks on each other in the past few weeks on issues mainly brought up by Washington over China’s disdains for Western style democratic values. Only recently, the US President said he would meet with Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, later this year. Last week, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton blasted China’s control over freedom of expression in cyberspace. And yesterday She warned China of more diplomatic isolation and disruptions to its energy supplies, if Beijing does not support US-led economic sanctions on Iran.
The increasing US interferences in China’s internal affairs have led to today’s severe reaction by Beijing on Sino-US military contracts.
China is the world’s most populous nation and its rapidly expanding economy poses the gravest threat to Western hegemony in global affairs. According to leading economists, Beijing is the largest holder of US government treasury bounds and therefore has the ability to wreak havoc on the US economy at any time.
