As Far as Iskander is Concerned, We are Ready: Igor Smirnov
February 15, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Transniestria is ready to host Russian missile batteries dubbed Iskander on its territory if the Kremlin were to ask for it, announced Igor Smirnov the President of Transniestria.
In another sign of growing tensions between Washington and Moscow, some countries in Eastern Europe said they are ready to host Russian and American missile systems on their soils. Last month Poland said it was ready to host US anti-missile shield near the Russian border followed by Romania last week. Moscow retaliated by saying it was ready to deploy Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad area close to Poland.
United States says it is concerned about missile attack from countries such as Iran and for this reason it would set up a huge shield around Western Europe. But Moscow believes such a massive shield couldn't possibly be against the Iranian threat as they say Tehran’s missile power is still at its rudimentary stages using technology of the 1950's.
Russia’s Interfax new agency reported Smirnov as saying on Monday, ‘We are not against it ... As far as Iskander (missile) is concerned, and we have long said we are ready.’
Washington has recently introduced new sets of aggressive policies against both Moscow and Beijing to show that the US is still a force to recon with. This is despite West’s continuous failures in such strategic areas like the Middle East and Latin America. In addition, consecutive US administrations have not been able to harness China’s rapid economic development, which poses the greatest threat of all to the Western global hegemony.
With over one and half billion people China is ready to take over the Western world as the global leader in manufacturing of high quality consumer goods and international trades. Beijing could also become an engine of progress for the rest of developing world in South America, Africa and the Middle East. China is a founding member of the Shanghai Corporation Council, comprising of countries that together form a giant block against NATO’s expansionist policies.
