Saudi Arabia Rebuffs U.S. Request to Reassure China

China Needs No Suggestions From Saudi Arabia Over What it Ought to Do: Saudi FM.

Tehran, February 16, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal rebuffed US call for reassuring China about its energy needs concerns. ‘ China needs no suggestion from Saudi Arabia to do what they ought to do over the Islamic Republic's nuclear activities, ‘ he said during a conference with the visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday.

Clinton while visiting Persian Gulf Arab states said it was important that Saudi Arabia, a leading world oil producer, reassure China its energy would not be interrupted if it supports economic sanctions against Iran. The US Secretary of State has been using similar rhetoric against Iran in the past when she lectured Latin America on what course of actions they need to take in order for them to achieve success against Iran.

Latin American leaders downplayed Clinton’s remarks regarding Iran and told her they know what policies they should take when it comes to their relations with other countries. Saudi Arabian FM said, ‘Sanctions are a long-term solution (but) ... we see the issue in the shorter term because we are closer to the threat, and if we want security for the region, it requires an Iran at peace and happy with themselves,’ Faisal said.
