There is a contract to supply these systems to Iran, and we will fulfill it: Russian Official.
February 20,2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran yesterday launched its first domestically built destroyer in the waters of the Persian Gulf. Iran’s Supreme leader attended the ceremony at one of the naval bases on Friday accompanied by senior navy commanders.
The 94 meters destroyer named Jamaran has a displacement of 14,000 tons and carries 120-140 personnel. The vessel is equipped with surface-to-air missiles, latest electronic detection systems, naval cannons and anti-ship torpedoes. It has a top speed of 30 knots and is equipped with a helipad. The Mowge class destroyer and all of the equipments onboard have been manufactured by Iran’s own domestic industries.
Meanwhile, Russia reiterated its commitments to supply the air-defense system called S-300 to Tehran, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported Friday. The powerful missile system could shoot down several flying objects 150 km away, simultaneously.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Interfax, ‘There is a contract to supply these systems to Iran, and we will fulfill it, delays (with deliveries) are linked to technical problems with adjusting these systems.’ The official added, ‘It is absolutely incorrect to put the emphasis on the issue of S-300 supplies... and to turn it into a major problem, to say nothing of linking it to the discussion on restoring trust in the purely peaceful character of Iran's nuclear program.’ |
Iran's first domestically built destroyer Jamaran is to protect the Persian Gulf waters.
