US Healthcare Coverage Dilemma

More than 31 Million Americans Are Without Health Coverage at This Time.

February 23, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - As millions of Americans await a decision on their health coverage program, the US president Barack Obama continues to explain his system of the national healthcare in outmost vagueness.

On Monday, Obama unveiled his latest restructuring for the American healthcare system seemingly deadlocked by US legislative bodies.

There are more than 31 million Americans without a health coverage at this time. Ordinary Americans who could somehow afford to pay for their expensive health premiums receive very basic services at best. Only the richest people in America could afford full coverage, which makes them stand apart from the rest, all in a separate social class very similar to the Middle Ages. A proper health coverage in the US, would cost a person over tens of thousands of dollars per year, as if the ancient Roman Emperor Julius Cesar (13 July 100 BC – 15 March 44 BC) was alive today and wanted to go see a doctor.

In contrast, a relatively poor country such as Cuba that has gone through decades of sanctions offers full healthcare system from head to toe for every person in the country. Or even Canada, which provides basic universal coverage for all people with the option to purchase extended coverage at reasonable costs.

But so far the US President has only talked about a more regulated healthcare system for the Americans. Washington readily passes hundreds of billions of dollars budget to proceed with meaningless wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and other places, but it could take forever to pass a proper budget for such an important issue as the healthcare program for the people.

The new plan offered by Obama envisions some coverage for Americans with federal subsidies to help those who could not afford the premiums. Also insurance companies would have to register people with or without medical problems. The companies must not charge people more than a fixed price. Private insurance companies in the US however have their own methods of bypassing any kinds of legislations in due time.

Obama’s proposed plan would cost about $1 trillion for 10 years making it the most expensive insurance coverage in the world. The US spends more than twice the amount spent by Britain, France and Germany on healthcare, but fails to deliver effective services.
