UN Vote Condemned US Blockade Against Cuba

The White House continues to pay more attention to the well-funded 'special interests' of an exiguous minority that has turned the policy against Cuba into a very profitable business: Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.

October 27, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - United Nations for the 19th straight time voted its strong opposition to the 50-year long blockade of Cuba by the United States.

187 UN members voted in favor of the resolution for lifting of the blockade, two internationally marginalized voters i.e. the US and its smaller ally the Zionist regime voted in support of the blockade and three others abstained. This overwhelming majority-vote represents a growing isolation for the US and Israel.

Washington imposed an economic blockade on Cuba - an island nation located in the Caribbean Sea - soon after the victory of Cuban Revolution in 1959. Cuba is a major producer of sugar, nickel, tobacco, fish, medical products, citrus, and coffee. This magnificently scenic island is considered one the best tourist destinations in the world. Additionally, Cuba enjoys one of the highest standards of human development factors despite more than 50 years of blockade and various other clandestine activities enacted by the United States during this period.

Tuesday's vote reaffirms the principles of sovereign equality among states, non-intervention and non-interference in internal affairs as well as freedom of commerce and international navigation. Following the UN vote, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez told reporters, ‘Two years after President Obama pledged to seek 'a new beginning with Cuba; facts confirm that nothing has changed, it is obvious that the United States has no intention whatsoever to lift the blockade.’

‘The White House continues to pay more attention to the well-funded 'special interests' of an exiguous minority that has turned the policy against Cuba into a very profitable business,’ the Cuban FM underscored.

In yet another one of Obama’s unfulfilled policies, lifting of embargo on Cuba was announced during one of his many speeches two years ago.  But then again like most of Obama’s other policies this one too was never fulfilled.

Obama is considered by many as perhaps the most controversial of all presidents in US history.
