November 01, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Brazilians have elected their first woman president Dilma Rousseff during Sunday’s election. She won 55.5 percent of all valid votes compare to 44.5 percent for her opponent Jose Serra. Rousseff has been labeled a close ally of the incumbent Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva who enjoyed vast popularity throughout his two-term in office. One of the main objectives of Rousseff would be to eradicate extreme poverty among 20 million or more Brazilians. She said she would seek help from all factions to help eradicate poverty in her country. The first woman president in Brazil reportedly was a member of a guerilla group fighting former dictator in the 60’s. She spent time in prison and after her release began working for the government. Her last responsibility was the country’ energy minister in the current administration. Brazil is expected to become the world’s fifth largest economy by 2016. Brazilians say they owe much of their current developments to Lula’s domestic policies aimed at improving the country’ economic infrastructure rather than depending on the others particularly the US to impose a form of economic and political slavery.
