November 07, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Top Iranian official said the UN Human Rights Council is facing a litmus test by whether it would be able to seriously review United States’ human rights violations at this conjuncture. Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani speaking at an open session of the parliament on Saturday said there’s plenty of information on continued human rights violations by the US and the Council has access those information. ‘So many books and articles have been written on human rights violations in the U.S. that the UN Human Rights Council has more than enough data to review the human rights situation in that country,’ the Iranian Majlis speaker stated. Washington’s steadfast disregards for rights of individuals became known when news of systematic tortures and illegal detentions at Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib prisons took the centre stage. It was also discovered that medical researchers under direct order by US military intentionally infected thousands of poor Guatemalan villagers with syphilis and gonorrhea viruses. The US President Barack Obama ultimately had to apologize to the Guatemalans and the international community for this inhuman act committed by the United States from 1946 to 1948. Larijani also said the US is continuing its support for to the Zionist regime which would allow it to commit crimes against the Palestinians. He reminded that the US is still occupying the countries of Iraq and Afghanistan. ‘US shirks its responsibility for establishing security,’ and on the other hand, it ‘chants the slogan about launching a campaign against terrorism (but) holds secret talks with terrorists,’ he noted. |
