Israeli Defense Forces Bulldozer Runs Over Activist Rachel Corrie
(2.5 minutes, 1.8 MB)
June 03, 2010 9Hamsayeh.Net) - The world is watching Israeli reaction as the ship Rachel Corrie MV approaches the Gaza coast next week. An Israeli army colonel promised to stop the ship even more aggressively than last Monday’s attack on six-ship flotilla.
The ship Rachel Corrie MV is named after a 23 year old American activist member of International Solidarity Movement (ISM). Rachel Aliene Corrie (April 10, 1979 – March 16, 2003) was killed by an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) bulldozer as it was attempting to demolish a home belonging to a local Palestinian named Samir Nasrallah. Rachel tried to stop the bulldozer but both drivers had ignored her presence when they drove the heavy machine over her.
Another American activist Joe Carr witnessed what had happened in an affidavit published by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), following the murder of Rochel Corries by the so-called Israel Defence Forces. Carr said, ‘Still wearing her fluorescent jacket, she knelt down at least 15 meters in front of the bulldozer, and began waving her arms and shouting, just as activists had successfully done dozens of times that day... When it got so close that it was moving the earth beneath her, she climbed onto the pile of rubble being pushed by the bulldozer... Her head and upper torso were above the bulldozer’s blade, and the bulldozer driver and co-operator could clearly see her. Despite this, the driver continued forward, which caused her to fall back, out of view of the diver. He continued forward, and she tried to scoot back, but was quickly pulled underneath the bulldozer. We ran towards him, and waved our arms and shouted; one activist with the megaphone. But the bulldozer driver continued forward, until Rachel was all the way underneath the central section of the bulldozer.’
