(Hamsayeh.Net) - Iran’s first domestically built satellite called ‘OMID’ was launched on the 2^nd of February 2009 from its launch pad inside Iran. The successful launching of the country’s first such a technical feat, has astonished ordinary people as well as experts around the world.

Not only the launching of the missile turned out flawlessly but also placing of its payload of a 40x40 cm satellite into orbit demonstrates the level of expertise Iranian scientists and engineers have been able to achieve despite years of western embargoes. 

The satellite was initially detected at 55-degree inclination orbit, 250 km above the earth. Its signals were caught through UHF downlink on 465.000MHz, soon after being placed into orbit. Ground stations in different parts of Iran, conducting communications with satellite operated successfully.

Omid Satellite’s internal devices including thermal, batteries and communication instrumentations performed well under conditions existing in outer space. The satellite missions is summarized as follows:

• Broadcasting of Presidential message from the outer space to the earth.

• Text communications.

• Defining satellite’s orbit after release from ‘Safir’ carrier.

• Establishing satellite’s telemetric and tele-command communications with the earth.

• Transmitting instrumentations data.

• Receiving of commands from the earth.

According to latest reports, all the above missions have been accomplished effectively.  The satellite, now nearly 50 days after launch, is falling back into the earth. The country’s space agency plans to follow through by sending more sophisticated satellites into space in the near future.
