Tehran - August 14, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking with Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedev stressed the constructive and friendly relationship between the two neighboring countries.
Ahmadinejad said, 'Iran - Turkmenistan borders are borders of lasting friendship and based on both government's strong will, our bilateral and regional relations will blossom more than ever before.' He went on saying that, 'The two countries have had constructive and positive talks so far and appropriate decisions have been made based on those talks whose implementation would further strengthen the foundation of Tehran-Ashgabat relations.'
On his part, the Turkmenistan President congratulated Ahmadinejad for his re-election and said he attaches great importance to bilateral relations and friendship between the two countries.
Berdimuhamadev referred to joint projects as of great regional importance that would ensure both countries interests. He also called for accelerating the joint construction projects currently underway.
Iran and Turkmenistan are working on a joint gas pipeline project that connects Dowlatabad gas located inside Turkmenistan Sarakhs region to Iran's pipeline network which would transfer 15 million cubic meters of natural gas a day.
Iran and Turkmenistan hold the second and third largest natural gas reserves in the world, respectively. Further north Russia holds world's largest gas reserves.
