Vienna - Member states of Non-Aligned Movement at IAEA Board of Governors on Wednesday adopted statement in support of Iran’s nuclear program.
Talking to IRNA at the end of the NAM meeting, Iranian Ambassador to IAEA, Ali-Asghar Soltanieh, said the NAM member states adopted the statement about Iran with overwhelming majority.
Soltanieh said that the NAM member states appreciated Iranian cooperation with IAEA acknowledged by the agency in its latest report last week and supported Iran’s NPT right to produce nuclear energy.
Soltanieh said the NAM member states were pleased with the positive report of the IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei, which underlined no diversion in Iran’s nuclear project towards military purposes.
"The statement called for normalization of applying IAEA Safeguards Agreement in Iran," Soltanieh said.
He added that the NAM statement is to be presented to the IAEA Board of Governors meeting by Egyptian envoy on behalf of more than 100 NAM members and it is to be registered as the IAEA document.
