Tehran, August 03, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Iranian Majlis or parliament today approved 18 ministerial nominees and rejected 3 after five days of intensive deliberations. The 293 members of the parliament at last approved Ahmadinejad government's make up except three posts for education, welfare and energy ministries.
The only woman in the cabinet who received approval was Marzieh Vahid Dastjerdi for the post of health minister. She is the first woman minister in Iran since the revolution in 1979.
The other two women were rejected by the parliament receiving less than required votes. Ms. Keshavarz who was nominated for the post of Education Minister was rejected overwhelmingly by receiving only 49 votes.
Also, the now Defense Minister Ahmad vahidi obtained the highest approval by receiving 227 of the votes, which was the highest among the candidates.
286 lawmakers attended the open session.
