Kabul, September 05, 09 (Hamsayeh.Net) - In yet another NATO air strike on Afghan civilians 95 people were killed and scores wounded in Kunduz Province in northern Afghanistan, yesterday.
The US army spokesperson denied there were civilians killed. The spokesperson said most of the victims were Taliban fighters.
The latest attack happened at the time when Taliban troops captured two fuel tankers from a nearby German base in northern Afghanistan. The Germans dispatched a drone aircraft to search for the tankers and as it found them it fired several missiles setting off a huge fireball.
Contrary to US claims, that there were no civilians in the area, about 500 ordinary Afghans were invited by the Taliban to make use of the captured fuel and most of them were busy collecting the fuel from the tankers when drone attacks occurred.
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai criticized the attacks saying it was unacceptable for NATO to deliberately target civilians. He promise investigation into the attacks.
The NATO and US air strikes have so far killed thousands of civilians in Afghanistan. Taliban militias draw most of their fighters from angry Afghans who loathe any foreign forces occupying their country.
