Berlin, EU adamant on addressing nuclear issue in talks with Iran. EU insisted Monday it would address Iranian nuclear issue during its October 1st talks with Iranian officials, the German press agency dpa reported from Brussels on Monday evening.
It is impossible to exclude it, Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb was quoted saying. Speaking on the sidelines of the Eorpean Uunion Foreign Ministers' Meeting in the
Belgian capital, an unnamed EU diplomat said that Tehran's nuclear program was "a fundamental part of our relationship with Iran." The leadership of Iran has made clear that it considers the nuclear matter as a "closed file".
Meanwhile, the French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner voiced scepticism over the usefulness of the October 1 meeting. "Do you know how many meetings we have had with Iran? Many, many, many!
We will have one more, but I don't expect much from it," Kouchner said.
Iran will meet with officials from the five UN veto powers - the US, China, Russia, Britain and France - plus Germany on October 1 to discuss a number of political issues on global peace, justice and development.
It will be the first such meeting between Iranian officials and the six countries since July 2008.
