TEHRAN - A senior Iranian legislator on Saturday said Iran is now a member of the world nuclear club and there was, thus, no room and no justification for discussing the country's nuclear issue in its updated package of proposals to the six world powers.
"They (the West) wanted us to include the nuclear issue in the package, while it is not the time to discuss such issues now, " Deputy Chairman of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hojjatoleslam Hossein Sobhani-Nia said.
"The West sought to bring us to the negotiating table to discuss the nuclear issue, but we consider it a closed case," Sobhani-Nia reiterated.
He underlined that the recently presented package of proposals includes Islamic Republic's comprehensive and large-scale outlook on international, political, security and economic issues.
Meantime, the Iranian lawmaker noted that Iran is ready for talks in a bid "to increase transparency and remove possible ambiguities".
The latest package of proposals which was presented by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki to the ambassadors and representatives of the six major powers on September 9 is an all-embracing package offering cooperation between Iran and the West on solutions to a wide variety of global issues.
The package was submitted to the ambassadors of France, Russia, Germany, and China, the British charge d'affaires, and the Swiss ambassador to Tehran, whose country represents US interests section in Iran.
The two sides are slated to attend talks early in October, possibly in Turkey.
